Participation in Code Read is free. Through our program, students can earn "Book Bucks" from their teachers for good behavior or performance in the classroom. Teachers decide how they would like to reward the "Book Bucks" provided by Code Read. Students can then use their bucks to choose books from our collection. The process is similar to that of a book fair, with the exception that children will be purchasing books with "Book Bucks" they earned. We encourage teachers to create a reward system which makes it possible for every child to earn free books.
We also offer free book distributions for foster children in Los Angeles County.
Currently, we are only working with Title 1 schools and underserved youth in Los Angeles County. Our partner elementary schools are comprised of 600-900 students K-6 grade, the majority of which qualify for free lunch, and their families live below the poverty level.
